With this pattern, you have the stark choice of passing and seeing partner toil in a 4-3 fit – sometimes with a 6-2 spade fit gone begging, or bidding two spades, false preference, and being carried unwillingly to the stratosphere. My view is that with a dead minimum you have found what is likely to be a playable spot and should pass. With the same hand but an additional spade queen, I bid two spades happily.
