Singleton kings aren’t ideal for preempts: They can easily score on defense but not on offense. Still, my heart intermediates persuade me to act at my first turn. After all, facing, say, a five-card spade suit to one honor and two small hearts, hearts might play much better than spades. I would pass without the heart intermediates unless nonvulnerable and in first seat, where landing the first blow is paramount.
