There is a school of thought that says bidding here shows values, and otherwise you can pass. I prefer to tell partner which of his suits I like more (or hate less). So, a call of two diamonds feels right; the faster I get to this contract, the less likely I am to get doubled for penalties — which would certainly not thrill me unless dummy is a lot better than I expect.
